Case Update: July 15, 2026

On July 14th, 2026, Defendant Singh, the truck driver in the fatal 10 freeway collision was sentenced at Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court. The defendant plead guilty and was convicted to three counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence under Penal Code 192(c)(1).

The court imposed a sentence of 4 years and 8 months in state prison.

Under California’s statutory framework, several factors required our prosecutors and the court to consider imposing the lower term.

These included:

  • the defendant was not intoxicated by any detectable substance at the time of the collision,
  • the defendant had no prior criminal history, and
  • the defendant qualified under the youthful offender provision of Penal Code 1170(b)(6)(B), which directs courts to consider the low term for offenders 26 years old or younger at the time of the offense.
  • there are no statutorily prescribed aggravating factors under Penal Code 1170(b)(2) that would allow deviation from the presumptive low term.

Our Office recognizes this outcome is disproportionate given the immense loss suffered, families who may never feel whole again,  and the significant impact on the motorist who witnessed the tragedy and were impacted by the freeway closure that followed the collision. This incident unfortunately highlights how devastating grossly negligent driving can be for everyone on our roadways as well as the limitations of our current laws regarding vehicular manslaughter.

Original Release

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. – The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Jashanpreet Singh (21) of Yuba City. The charges are related to Singh’s alleged actions on Oct. 21, 2025, driving a semi-truck with gross negligence that resulted in a multi vehicle crash, killing three victims and seriously injuring several more on the 10 Freeway West near the Milliken offramp in Ontario CA.

Officers with California Highway Patrol immediately assumed the investigation, which is ongoing, with on-scene assistance from San Bernardino County District Attorney Office Bureau of Investigation and Office of Traffic Safety Unit prosecutors. Eyewitness and dashcam footage show Defendant Singh travelling at a high rate of speed into stopped traffic. Three fatalities and at least two injured individuals have been confirmed. Singh was arrested at the scene under suspicion of DUI.

“This is a heinous tragedy that took three lives and severely injured others.  Frankly, it was easily avoidable if the defendant was not driving in a grossly negligent manner and impaired.  Had the rule of law been followed by State and Federal officials the defendant should have never been in California at all”, said San Bernardino County District Attorney, Jason Anderson.

“Thankfully, the Inland Empire California Highway Patrol managed and processed a massive and chaotic scene in order to provide us with the evidence we need to aggressively prosecute this case on behalf of the surviving victim and the surviving loved ones of the victims killed by the defendant.”
