The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office has filed charges against Joshua Williams Sr. (Age 27 of San Bernardino) for murder in Highland.
CASE SYNOPSIS
On Saturday, March 27, 2021, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 25300 block of Baseline in Highland regarding subjects armed with a weapon, inside a vehicle. Joshua Williams Sr. was arrested after he crashed his vehicle into another motorist, causing a fatality.
After reviewing this case, our office has filed charges against Mr. Williams for violating the following sections of the California Penal Code and California Vehicle Code:
Penal Code Section 187(a) – Murder (Felony)
Murder is the unlawful killing of a human being, or a fetus, with malice aforethought.
Penal Code Section 191.5(a) – Gross Vehicular Manslaughter While Intoxicated (Felony)
Gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated is the unlawful killing of a human being without malice aforethought, in the driving of a vehicle, where the driving was in violation of Section 23140, 23152, or 23153 of the Vehicle Code, and the killing was either the proximate result of the commission of an unlawful act, not amounting to a felony, and with gross negligence, or the proximate result of the commission of a lawful act that might produce death, in an unlawful manner, and with gross negligence.
Penal Code Section 2800.3(b) – Evading An Officer Causing Death (Felony)
Whenever willful flight or attempt to elude a pursuing peace officer in violation of Section 2800.1 proximately causes death to a person, the person driving the pursued vehicle, upon conviction, shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for a term of 4, 6, or 10 years.
Vehicle Code Section 20001(b)(2) – Hit And Run Driving Resulting In Death Or Serious Injury To Another Person (Felony)
A person who violates subdivision (a) shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison, or in a county jail for not more than one year, or by a fine of not less than one thousand dollars ($1,000) nor more than ten thousand dollars ($10,000), or by both that imprisonment and fine.
